Our Successes

Accountability through Leadership

Haworth has a global governance structure in place to support our sustainability objectives. Our executive management is ultimately held accountable, while a Global Sustainability Manager and steering committee drives and reports on progress. Haworth Europe also has a sustainability champion to oversee and prioritise improvements. This engagement with the concept of sustainability is rolled right down to all stakeholders through annual global sustainability reports, web-based learning portals and workshops.

Sustainable Spaces

Haworth creates office spaces, including our own facilities, with Green Building initiatives in mind. Our headquarters in Holland, Michigan is rated among the top 5% of energy efficient buildings in the USA.

In Bad Münder, Haworth Germany uses wood waste from manufacturing as a renewable energy source for heating the factory. Haworth Switzerland is also using wood waste as a heating source, while the Zurich showroom has attained LEED-CI Silver certification. The Haworth France Paris showroom was built to LEED-CI standards and embraces some of the criteria for obtaining HQE Exploitation status, the French equivalent to LEED.

Manufacturing Certification

All Haworth manufacturing locations worldwide are certified with both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and within Europe we also have OHSAS 18001 certification for our production facilities in Ahlen & Bad Munder, Germany and Menziken, Switzerland.

Zero Waste

Haworth aims to eliminate waste and emissions associated with corporate operations and the manufacture of our products. In 2012, we achieved zero waste to landfill at all manufacturing facilities worldwide.

In 2008 our Asian facilities in Pune, India and Shanghai, China achieved zero waste to landfill. In 2009 all manufacturing in the USA also met this objective, and in 2012 our Portuguese factories joined Ahlen & Bad Munder in Germany; Menziken in Switzerland and Saint Hilaire de Loulay in France in achieving this goal for Europe.

End of Life management

Spurred on by new government regulations, Haworth France has teamed with industry associates to create VALDELIA (VALorisation des DEchets LIés á l’Ameublement). This is a new program for end-of-life product management among manufacturers and dealers serving the French market. By the end of 2015, the goal is to reuse or recycle 75 percent of products.
