Lepper, Schmidt, Sommerlade
Christian Lepper, Roland Schmidt, and Uwe Sommerlade studied together at the Gesamthochschule Kassel and also shared a carpentry apprenticeship. After various professional activities, the design trio decided to join forces, founding the LSS design studio in Kassel in 1991.
They work across disciplines, in two and three dimensions, using pencil and paper, CAD systems and a modelling workshop. For them, product development is as important as the design. An idea is simply the start of a process during which the product takes shape. Discussions and experiments, close co-operation with clients, and attention to detail are the determining factors in reaching the goal.
They see themselves as mediators: For them, the two-way flow of communication with their clients is one of the foundations of design. This attitude has resulted in an impressive group of customers including such renowned German manufacturers as Haworth, Brunner, Kusch, Rosenthal and Thonet as well as Italian firms such as Rossin and Tonon.
In their own words:"Design is not just the search for the right solution, but for the exceptional one". It is therefore no surprise that the elegant appearance and functionality of the s_con chair for Haworth enhances any workplace.
