One Haworth Center
A sun-filled atrium. Sedum plantings on the roof. Over 750 workstations with access to daylight and views. The One Haworth Center in Holland, Michigan is a 28,000m2 testament to adaptable, user-focused, sustainable design.
Haworth's corporate headquarters incorporates the principles we encourage our clients to adopt every day.
Changing Nature of Work
By incorporating Haworth's adaptable workspace solutions throughout, the interior suits our corporate needs today, and allow us to mould spaces to evolving business needs and user workstyles in the future.
Workplaces must be designed with an understanding of two things:
- There isn't one way to work. Different roles require specific functionality.
- Change is never complete. We must be ready to adapt and re-adapt.
One Haworth Center embraces these changes and is positioned for future evolution. Rather than try to predict what changes will occur, we've used an innovative chassis design to create a remarkably flexible, sustainable work environment. Much of the space is devoted to Dynamic Zones, which allow workspaces to change quickly and easily to meet user workstyles and needs.
In addition, we know that our work is more collaborative than when the original building was designed. Each product involves the skills and knowledge of a broad group of specialists. As a result, we've added Temporal Zones, increasing collaborative space by nearly 40%. And our use of raised floors, moveable walls, and adaptable systems means we're ready for anything.
This also ties back into our sustainability objectives, as we re-use elements rather than sending them to the landfill.
Sustainability
- Over 99% of building materials collected during demolition was recycled.
- Energy use remained at pre-renovation levels, even though the new building is 20% larger.
- The dramatic new facade features a sun-filled atrium and a green vegetated roof that gently slopes down to blend with the surrounding environment.
